Saving for a home

Dream, save, own!

Saving money doesn’t just require discipline; it also requires an understanding of where you’d like to be, a timescale, and a plan in place to get you there. When your goal is to purchase a home, it is key to break the goal down into manageable chunks to make the process feel attainable.

It takes time, but with the right advice in place at an early stage, you will feel confident that you will eventually reach your end goal of owning a home. Whether you are an individual or a couple, we equip you with the necessary resources and advice to achieve this momentous milestone.

Questions you might have

When can I afford to buy my first home?

We will do a deep dive into your finances, including existing savings and expenditures, to gain a better understanding of when you can realistically afford to buy a home.

Our team will be truthful about what is achievable, and we will work alongside you to reach your goal.

How much money should I save each month?

That’s a good question and one that is unique to the individual. We will meet with you to understand your current circumstances; for example, are you living with your parents or renting?

Once we understand how much money you have left over each month, we will help you budget and save.

How will I pay my mortgage if I'm sick?

If you are unable to work through illness, one of the biggest concerns you’ll have is paying your mortgage.

We’d never want you to be worried about this, so we will ensure you are protected against any unexpected circumstances by putting relevant insurance in place. This means you and your family will be well looked after.

The plan will have no cash in value at any time, and will cease at the end of the term. If premiums are not maintained, then cover will lapse.

What’s the best way to save?

Saving up for a deposit can feel like a difficult task. However, when you know how to save correctly, it makes things a lot easier.

Everyone’s needs and circumstances are different, so we will first understand what yours are before suggesting the optimum ways to save money.

How does an ISA work?

We understand that the world of finances is all new to you, and it is likely the first time you have come to someone for advice.

We will explain exactly how an ISA works and whether this is the appropriate route for you to go down when saving for a home.

The value of units can fall as well as rise, and you may not get back all of your original investment.

Explore the possibilities

One of the first things we will do is understand what timescale you’d like to work toward. Would you like to own a home in five years or even sooner? Then, we will give you advice on how best to go about saving for a home and get plans in motion to help you get there.

We will ensure you are a little wiser about the buying process, especially as a first-time buyer.

We contacted Wholesome Financial Planning following mediocre service from our previous financial adviser. We had worked with Matt and Lucy previously and had no doubts about their professionalism, attention to detail, sound advice, excellent communication and speedy follow up on actions. As expected, Matt has been superb and given us total confidence that we made the right decision.

Matt is very professional and has a calm way of communicating, which is important and reassuring. He explains everything clearly and patiently and responds to emails quickly. Fees were clear from the start and I experience him and the service I receive as steady and trustworthy. Highly recommended!

Lucy was recommended to us by a friend and was absolutely brilliant throughout. My parents needed guidance with a life insurance policy and she made a rather complex process much more straightforward. She updated us on her progress throughout and communicated clearly and efficiently what we needed to do. She was very reassuring, answering all of their queries and helping my parents understand the more complex elements to the policy. We highly recommend Lucy. Thank you Lucy for all your excellent and thorough work!

I contacted Wholesome Financial Planning through recommendation of a friend. I asked if it was possible to have a home visit as my husband is disabled. There was no problem and Lucy visited us within 2weeks. Having a pension issue, she managed to explain to us simply and clearly how to solve this ourselves. As we are both over 80 years old, it was refreshing to have Lucy explain (what was for us a complicated issue)in simple terms how to solve it. We like to thank Lucy and Wholesome Financial Planning for a five Star Service.

Lucy provided initial advice. Her communication and response times were excellent based on a very clear pricing structure. Lucy provided clear and concise explanations and was patient when we asked questions. We received clear documentation and explanation of her recommendations.

We consulted Lucy after having recently retired. Lucy gave us a forecast that helped us to understand whether or not our retirement income was sufficient for our needs. She helped with consolidating separate pension 'pots' into one that can be monitored/managed online and in a fund that better suits our needs. Lucy gave us useful tools that supported with analysing our spending and our priorities for the immediate and longer term future. She arranged several meetings to listen to our needs, including attitude to risk, so that she understood them fully before providing us with advice which she was careful to ensure we understood. She also advised us about key points in the future when we should review if we did not take up the option of an annual review with her. Very satisfied customer!
